The West Michigan Crime Prevention Association was founded in 1979 with the purpose of contributing to the reduction and control of criminal opportunity and criminal victimization in West Michigan. WMCPA has co-sponsored a fraud prevention seminar for twelve consecutive years. The association also sponsors an annual golf tournament to raise funds. Members meet every other month.

Members of the West  Michigan Crime Prevention Association get together every other month, from as far south as St. Joseph and Niles to as far north as Cadillac.  In addition to speakers, reports are presented by representatives from the following organizations:

Each year the West Michigan Crime Prevention Association accepts nominations for the Jim Hartman Crime Prevention Practitioner of the Year award.  This year's recipient is Sandi Jones with the Kent County Sheriff's Department.  Not only was she recognized as the Crime Prevention Practitioner of the Year by the West Michigan Crime Prevention Association. in October 2009 she was recognized for the same accomplishments by the Crime Prevention Association of Michigan.
